Hang on, we'll send the office assistant out.
Seriously, no, that's why you ended up with a full refund, and there's always the outside chance that the item may suddenly start continuing on its journey to you.

They will already have searched for it there on site, they'll not want to issue a refund out of their own pockets without first exploring all avenues.

It's galling when a unique item that you've bought goes on the missing list, I do hope that it eventually turns up for you.

how else can it go missing
I think it's accepted that most "lost or missing"postal deliveries parcels are probably stolen, apart perhaps from a few where the labes falls off and there is no other means of identification. As you say, how else can items simply go missing?
Buyers are often frustrated by the loss of a much-wanted item, but I don't think we have never heard of eBay taking this up for them. Once the buyer has been refunded that's the end of it. If the parcel turns up it will sold to help defray the cost of refunds made by eBay. My guess is that items are simply simply batched up to be sold in trade auctions for lost property or customer returns.
But don't take our word that eBay won't help. Ask customer support if you want to. Let us know ther reply.
