Why is it that Yodel can lie on delivery tracking, lose a parcel for a week, having eBay force me to refund the buyer and raise a complaint with pack link, then have the gall to deliver the item a week later and wash their hands of returning the now unwanted item to the buyer. How poor has eBay become??

Unless you can prove delivery to a buyer, they can open a not received case as soon as past tge expected delivery date, and you have 3 days to refund.
That is the way it works. Having arrived late the buyer can open a NOT AS DESCRIBED CASE and you have to provide a reply paid label if you want it back.
You have the choice of how you get your sales to the buyer, the most reliable is Royal Mail, most Courier Services are reliable, but a lot depends on the area, and quality of their drivers.

Unfortunately it’s not eBay that has become poor, it’s just their partner packlink that is very poor.
if you had booked direct you would have probably got proper assistance from yodel.
