Item returned to sender - what to do about issuing refund

I’ve sold an item and been paid for it, the buyer paid for postage. The deliver company couldn’t find the address issued, and even though the buyer tried to sort this with the delivery company, then have returned it to me. I got no communication about this from Evri or EBay, just from the buyer.

 

I don’t mind issuing a refund to the buyer, as I have the product back,  but in the return section it seems to say I also need to return the delivery cost, which I didn’t get paid for.  

 

I can’t find anything on eBay that helps with this. I shouldn’t need to cover any postage costs, given the address wasn’t right. Is there a way to challenge the postage fee? Or would the buyer need to try and claim this back?

What would people suggest I do? I’ve been stung before by someone asking for a return on another item, which I declined (the buyer bought the wrong item, even though my description was very clear) and I then I have to pay a eBay a fee as the buyer disputed it!

 

So far for items I’ve i’m at a loss for items sold, rather than profit!

There is no choice for a private seller it is a full refund that has to be made. 

 

Selling always has risks, and if you are not prepared to take tge risk, then you should not sell.

 

You have already found what happens when you dispute a refund, you will probably find if you look at your seller dashboard that you have a defect, which happens if ebay has to get involved. In the days of selling fees, you would still have paid a fee, making your loss even greater.

When you refund the buyer in full for a return or for an item that didn't arrive, we'll also refund the full Buyer Protection fee that was paid by the buyer to eBay.
