I have a buyer that has just opened a item not recievied where the tracking says unable to deliver returned to sorting office where she never bothered to collect it , it was held at sorting office for the 18 days now being returned to sender .

Attempted delivery counts for delivery,  so entering that tracking number into the case details,  should close the case in your favour, do this within 3 days,  or the buyer can escalate to eBay,  who will step in and force the refund.

Should the item  at some day be returned to you,  you will  have to refund the buyer, as you are then in possession of the money and the item.
