Is Ebay falling apart?

I've been an Ebay customer for 23 years now. It seems to have so many bugs in the system and it's very hard to talk to an agent now too. Is it just profiteering or genuinely falling apart?

Why do you need to speak to an agent?

This is a serious question - I think I have contacted Ebay directly maybe 2 or 3 times, certainly less than 5 times, in over 20 years.

A callback from an agent is available most of the day but I find that putting a few keywords into 'Help & contact' top left of the Ebay page usually takes me straight to useful, accurate information.

Or, you can ask your question in the forum.

Your question above, 'Is Ebay falling apart?' is obviously subjective.

My reply would be 'no'.

Re: Is Ebay falling apart?

I need to speak to an agent as my query was not covered in the standard, "how do I buy" "how do I sell" options that I've by now, worked out in my 23 years of experience. In fact the questions I have, never seem to be covered in their standard answer section. It was to do with a bug in their system, that I couldn't get past.
Also I'm not sure why an agent would only be able to call and not chat / email? What difference could it make to them? At least in writing there will be no confusion or language barriers.
The falling apart question is valid, as Ebay did not used to have these issues. So maybe you're suggesting it is cutting corners on customer support and or profiteering? Their fees have certainly skyrocketed in recent years.

How have fees rocketed?

As a private seller, there are NO fees anymore.

Re: Is Ebay falling apart?

I did suggest you ask your question in this forum.

There are lots of experienced members here who have encountered most of the issues buyers and sellers may have.

I am not suggesting Ebay is cutting corners on customer support and as for 'profiteering' - that suggests Ebay is trying to make an unfair or excessive profit.

Ebay is a business so is seeking to be profitable, but, no, I don't think it is profiteering.

And, as stated, private sellers no longer pay fees.

Final Value Fees Peaked at about 13% (+30p).  There is now a buyer protection fee which is included in the price you pay business sellers and varies when you buy from private sellers.  It works out to about 50p on a £6 item and £3 (5%) on a £60 item.  Considerably less than sellers' fees were.

Re: Is Ebay falling apart?

The fees I've had to pay for a long time were huge, and they had been going up for years. They may or may not have adjusted things recently, I wouldn't know as I haven't been selling in the last few months to find out. Either way It has cost me a lot of money.

Re: Is Ebay falling apart?

Fees were abolished for private sellers 1st October 2024.

The only category you'd still be charged a fee is in Motors.

You can still add an optional upgrade such as a Reserve or a second category, that'll incur a fee.
