In person pick up

Hi there. I have found a buyer for my item, but the item is too heavy and fragile to be sent by post. I also want to give the buyer the chance to try it out before paying via eBay  ( it's a music instrument ).

How can I pass on my address or phone number to them without the message scanner being triggered ?

You are not allowed to pass on those details until the buyer has paid through Ebay.

Then, when they come to collect the item, either they will be happy with it, they will give you the collection code and take the item away, or they will change their minds and you can process a refund while they are there.

That is how Ebay works for collection only items.

Nope,  that's not possible,  no contact details can be made available to buyers before purchase and payment made.

Contact details can then be exchanged,  buyer comes,  inspects if all is good they give you a 6 digit QR collection code for you to scan,  do not release the item without receiving this code,  it's your only proof the item has been collected.

If they do not like the item,  you cancel the order citing Buyer Requests to cancel.  This refunds the buyer and your seller performance is not affected.

eBay introduced this rule because users were arranging "inspection" visits, and then making private sales to evade payment of eBay's fees.

Thank you for your answer. I hardly ever sell through eBay, so wasn't sure
how to go about it.
