In over 20 years this is a first for me...stroppy insulting buyer

Hello everyone,

Really not sure how to deal with this one tbh. I'm currently getting rid of some of my Hot Wheels collection that I no longer want. So I've had 3 auctions finish earlier today, after having them as BIN lots for the past couple of weeks, with plenty of watchers but no sale I put them up for auction last week. All 3 had reserve prices, as they are relatively valuable collectors items. A Bulgarian buyer has bought one, and placed bids on the other 2 but didn't win them. They then sent me a stroppy message complaining he 'overpaid' for his winning item and he cant understand how he didn't win the other 2, despite being the highest bidder. I told him they all had reserve prices and he called me a clown and that it was 'bs'. I had reserve prices on all 3 as I wasn't prepared to sell them for below market value, which I'm perfectly within my rights to do. I offered to cancel the sale if he wasn't happy, but he said he didn't want a strike against his account (which ofc wouldn't happen). From his tone he said he was 'mad' for not winning, and I'm pretty sure he's going to leave me negative feedback any how. I'm not comfortable going through with the sale, he's a relatively new buyer and I simply dont trust he wont pull something to keep the item and get his money back. Advice would be appreciated, thank you

You haven't told us explicitly whether he has paid, but it sounds as though he probably has. If so, the opportunity to cancel for non-payment, which would have solved the problem instantly, will no longer be available to you.

You could try reassuring him that he won't get a strike if he asks to cancel as he feels that he overpaid for the item. If he refuses, you can't cancel because you don't deliver to the buyer's country as you offer delivery within the EU.

Otherwise you have the grisly choice of proceeding with the sale - with a good chance that he may pull some stunt as you say, or cancelling it with the near certainty of getting negative feedback. Worse, you will receive an account defect from eBay unless you can claim some difficulty with his address, which is about the only reason eBay will accept as valid.

Good luck, and don't forget to add him to your blocked bidders list.

No, I'm still waiting for him to make payment.

Looks like he won't pay, and  trying to make you lower the price,  which of course you should not / will not do.

Message them no more.

eBay allow a buyer 4 days to pay, when this period lapses,  cancel the order citing Buyer Has Not Paid.  This gives them a deserved unpaid item strike,  they are only allowed one before buying sanctions start.

Block them you do not want this nasty buyer returning.

Add their ID here:

If they leave a negative feedback  contact Customer Services,  they will remove it.

If you are able to cancel for non payment on day 5, do it.

One great benefit with unpaid strikes is that NO FEEDBACK CAN BE LEFT, or if already left would be removed.
