I sold £600 worth of items on eBay but only received £278

This was my first time trying to sell something on eBay. I listed two items: a board game for £610 and a monitor for £600. A buyer purchased my board game, and I was very happy at first. I bought DPD shipping labels directly through eBay to send it out.

However, when I first brought the parcel to the DPD drop-off point, they told me it was overweight and that I had to book a collection instead. The second time, when I booked a collection, DPD still said it was overweight and refused to ship it. Because of these two failed delivery attempts, the buyer became impatient and requested a refund.

As a result, I had to cover more than £270 in extra losses. eBay had already deducted about £150 in advertising fees when the payment first came into my account, and I also spent around £120 buying the two failed shipping labels. During this time, I used the “Email Us” option to contact eBay customer support. Unfortunately, the responses I received were dismissive—at first, I was simply told to check the shipping rules myself, and when I explicitly asked for a refund, my emails went completely unanswered. Even after sending two follow-up emails, I received no reply. In the end, eBay resolved the case by refunding the buyer and deducting all the money from my account.

That meant I not only earned nothing from the sale but also ended up owing eBay around £270. Later, after my £600 monitor was sold, eBay finally replied and said they would help me process a refund for the unused shipping labels (within 10 business days). But more than 10 business days have passed, and I still haven’t received any refund or update from them. Meanwhile, the £600 from the monitor sale was put on hold and then released on the 28th, but I found only £278 left in my account.

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. I feel very frustrated and helpless. This was my first time selling on eBay, and it may also be my last. How can I get my money back? Why did I sell items worth £600 yet end up with nothing, and even owing eBay money instead? Can anyone please help me?

You do have all the information, we cannot see your account.

Go to Seller Hub, Overview. On right side click MORE and select Payments all transactions.

That gives all details of amounts received, refunds, fees etc. Then if that does not explain fully ask a specific question with details.

This seems to be all about the failed postage as the advertising fees will be due regardless.  You probably used promotions, or reserves, both of which are expensive.

To get a refund for the DPD labels you didn't use you will have to make a claim. You can't rely on ebay 'helping you'.

Who you claim from depends on how you bought them.  For example, if you bought them through ebay then you have to claim a refund through Packlink.

You may struggle to get refunds on your unused shipping labels as the games sold in July, many of the carriers have time restraints for making claims on these sorts of things.
