How feedback has changed

I've been using eBay for 25 years.  Early on, feedback was regularly left for sellers and would be a brief remark about the quality / speed of service.  Over the years the practice of leaving feedback seemed to fall back and I had more transactions as both buyer and seller where none was left for me.  But in the last few months all that seems to have reversed.  When I look at sellers' feedback I see that buyers have written a paragraph about every aspect of the service they received.  I think it has been spurred on by the little bar under the feedback box that encourages you to write more (but which I just ignore).  So I'm now confused what the etiquette is.  Is lengthy feedback now expected?  My approach to feedback hasn't changed in all those years:  I normally leave it, and I keep it brief.  I buy a lot on eBay and I don't really have time to write an essay on each purchase!

How feedback has changed

Since eBay have allowed I think it's 500 characters max now for feedback, I agree some are essay style, and some you may have noticed are AI composed feedback too:

Starting late April, automated positive feedback will be added to your feedback profile 7 days after tracking confirms successful delivery, provided the following criteria are met:

  • Tracking shows the item was delivered on time
  • The buyer hasn’t left feedback yet
  • The buyer hasn't reported an issue or opened a return on their order.

I'm with you on leaving short succinct feedback, I believe though that some seeing the ' instruction' to leave more feedback,  carry on and essays appear!
