How can you contact eBay after a listing has been placed and the item turns out to be broken?

I posted an item. And there is a first bidder. I checked the item again for possible defects. Unfortunately there was a defect and I can no longer sell the item according to the initial description. So I want to change the listing to "Only parts" and lower the price. Ebay has to give permission for that first. Do you think you can talk to them now? FORGET IT. I spent more than an hour struggling through the menus and getting an answer via chat. TOO COMPLICATED !!!

Does anyone know how I can get help directly from them? Please a link.

I don't know where you get the idea that you need to get permission from Ebay to alter your listing.  They will not allow you to make the changes you want to.

Once an item has bids on, there is very little you can change.

Rather than trying to talk to Ebay, use 'Help & contact', top left of your Ebay page.

Use a short search term, I used 'revise a listing', and you will usually find clear and concise information.

Bids

You can:

  • Add a second category, unless there are category restrictions (fees may apply)
  • Add to the item description
  • Add photos
  • Add optional listing upgrades to increase your item's visibility
  • Decrease the cost for existing services such as postage
  • Add a new domestic postage service

    You can't:

    • Change the listing format
    • Change the listing duration
    • Change the starting price
    • Edit the listing description
    • Increase cost for an existing service such as postage
    • Remove an existing domestic postage service

To resolve your current issue, you could:

Contact the bidder.

Point out the faults you have now found.

Ask them if they would like to retract their bid.

If they agree, you would then be able to amend the listing or cancel it and start again.

Cancel the bid then cancel the listing and redo it.
