Getting postage refunded as a seller for cancelled sale

Hi.  I sold a pair of boots and realised, as I came to post them, that there was some rubbing marks on the tongue I hadn’t noticed previously.  I got in touch with the buyer and I agreed to refund.  Doing this on line I realised it would only allow me to refund the £ for the boots and not the postage that the lady had also paid for.  I finally ended up talking to an agent at eBay who said I needed to refund postage seperately via PayPal which I did.  I haven’t been refunded this amount by eBay so the buyer paid for postage which wasn’t used and I’ve had to pay myself for this myself.  Does anyone know how I get this refunded or do I just have to accept the loss?  Many thanks for any help

Sorry but you were given incorrect advice.    Assuming simple  delivery was used, if the buyer pays for unused postage it is automatically refunded to them by ebay within 30 days.    You could try asking the buyer to repay your refund.

Hi

Thank you so much for your reply. That makes total sense and super annoying I was given incorrect advice. I’ve messaged the buyer to see if eBay has refunded her so fingers crossed.

Many thanks again

You were right!  EBay had refunded the whole amount in one payment, cost of item and postage so I was given incorrect advice by eBay
