Financial statements and postage costs

I have been a private seller since 2004, gradually selling off personal collections and other items which do not interest me nowadays or I do not use any more.

Three main questions:

1.   I have become confused by the request for a NI number, backed up by Ebay with the information that it was because I received over £1750  and  had more than 30 transactions in the year (presumably Jan-Dec 1924, not the tax year), as opposed to their statement "You haven't received a digital sales report yet."  They also imply elsewhere that if you have not received a Digital sales report it is because you do not meet the reporting threshold.  I have no detail of the actual sales information given to HMRC to be able to check it.

2. I have downloaded a Financial Statement for each month from Jan 24 to Feb 25.   The figures quoted show a receipt for each item made up of item cost and postage.   Ebay say they show as a deducted cost any postage label issued under Simple Delivery but no mention of  my  own organised postage costs.  If they are  not excluded from income I would seem to have received more money than I actually have as postage cost is included in the figures.

3. When I received the red banner notification to give my NI number it contained the veiled threat that if I did not comply "Your account may be subject to payout holds or selling checks".  After a week when I had not given the number I was interested to be told I needed to reconfirm all my details immediately or I would not be able to access my account or any money held by Ebay.  I reluctantly entered my number and like magic my account returned to normal use.

Has anyone experienced any of the above?  I should be grateful for a reply, especially about my own organised postage costs possibly being shown on a report to HMRC as income.

Thanks for reading this.

All sellers are being asked for their NINO, but if you are a private seller just listing and selling off your own personal possessions then HMRC won't be interested, that income isn't taxable.
