Hi, I just sold an item with postal delivery paid for by me. I notice the buyer lives near me and it would be easier to deliver it myself. Don’t see anyway to chance the delivery method and worried that, if I deliver it, there will be no proof it was delivered.

You're right, there wouldn't be. If you want to go ahead with personal delivery cancel and relist as collection. You can treat the delivery as a collection and get the collection code from the buyer when you go there.
See "Proof of collection" on here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/setting-postage-options/local-collection?id=4181
If the buyer doesn't want to do that just post it in the usual way.

Correct. So as far as eBay is concerned, it won't have been delivered. No QR code as it wasn't sold for collection, no seller protection and probably an account defect for "late" delivery.
The correct way to resolve this would be to cancel the sale by agreement with the buyer, then relist it at an agreed pice as a "buy now" for collection with no delivery cost. You can then take ito the buyer personally, and the buyer's QR code will provide proof of collection by the buyer.
