Counterfeit products

I have reported this counterfeit product to eBay but they are not following up on it

It's a fake Butterfly product, the sort you get on Ali express for peanuts. This seller is pretending to sell it as a genuine damaged product.

Why doesn't eBay stop these fraudsters.

Buyers are being duped and this doesn't help create a safe marketplace.

Buyers are protected by eBay's Money Back Guarantee against their item not being as described, it's pretty impossible for a buyer to lose out.

eBay can't view the physical item, so won't act on reports.

What they will act on is buyers opening a not as described return, enough of these will flag the seller up.

eBay does not accept reports of counterfeits from ordinary users, only from the registered owner of the brand name. Quote: "Only intellectual property rights owners can report eBay listings that infringe on their copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights".

Instead, eBay suggests that "Members who are not the rights owner can still help by getting in touch with the owner and encouraging them to contact us. Some rights owners who participate in the VeRO Program have created a participant page, so eBay members can find out more about their products and legal positions. Though not all VeRO participants have a page, those that do can be found at our VeRO participant pages - opens in new window or tab".
