Compulsory simple delivery - compulsory expensive and inappropriate postage?

I just had a worrying message saying simple delivery is to be made compulsory soon. I recently had a couple of listings for faulty DVD players where I had trouble opting out of simple delivery, I had to click collection only then back to postage and collection. But before I did, I was looking at the simple delivery option, and it wouldn't even show an option for a 2kg small parcel, only a medium sized one! Presumably this was part of the concept of not needing to measure a parcel to simplify things, on the assumption all DVD players are the same size, which they are obviously not. With no full choice of parcel size this pushed up the shipping cost and as the items were not worth a lot, this will ruin the chances of selling by creating huge percentage increases in costs to the buyer. Shipping was simple already, this is dumbing down to a point where things no longer function correctly, due to a lack of choice. How is this going to work with non standard oversize items or lots with multiple items? Royal Mail may not offer any good options and Evri are unreliable, occasionally losing and breaking parcels and refusing to provide compensation or comply with UK consumer protection laws, if you can get hold of their customer (dis) service in the first place.
