I have sold something with local collection, but the buyer has arranged a courier; how and when can i receive the code that should be given on collection?

Send the buyer a message for them to give this essential collection code to their courier, as you will not release the item without it.
It's your only proof of delivery, it needs to be scanned or the numbers entered manually in the order details to the left of ... Confirm Collection.
One thing to be aware of, if the buyer sends their own courier, and does not collect the item themselves, they void all their buyer protection under eBay's 30 day MBG, Money Back Guarantee policy. This of course does not prevent them for turning to their payment provider if there' s a later need for a refund.
The collection code is essential.

Ask the buyer to give you the code via message before the courier collects. They've either got to trust you to give it to you early, or you trust them to give it to you late. I would go with the early option.

thank you both - then it's exactly as i had thought.
I've asked the buyer for the code in advance but they only want to give it when the item is received.
I've gone back and confirmed 'ebay' says i must have the code first - let's see... thanks again.
