Collecting

Hello

I have a customer who has purchased an item and paid to have it posted as he says that a collection option wasn’t available. He is intending to collect this week he has paid for the item and I have withdrawn the funds. He said just to give him the delivery cost on collecting the item wich I’m fine with. But how do I tell eBay this item is being collected? Kind regards Gavin.

Re: Collecting

If it's a Simple Delivery item the cost of unused postage will be automatically refunded to the buyer in 30 days.

But the correct way of doing it from ebay's point of view would be to cancel/refund the current transaction with buyer's agreement and relist as collection for them to buy again.   That way the buyer will receive a collection code to give to you when they come so you have proof the item has been handed over.

The only way to tell ebay an item has been collected is to list it as collection and then the buyer provides a collection code, or marks as collected, when they pick it up.

You can't switch between postage and collection, or vice versa, the system doesn't allow it.

You will be at risk of an item not received claim as you will have no evidence of delivery or collection.

Re: Collecting

Hi thank you for your response. It did kind of confirm what I thought. Erm I think this customer is a genuine guy who is a bit green on eBay law really seeing things a bit black & white . I think I might just get him to confirm on eBay the moment of collection and his satisfaction with the item and leave feedback. Thank you so much for your help 🙏kind regards Gavin.

Re: Collecting

The only way to be covered against an item not received case is to cancel this sale and relist with collection only.  Your buyer then buys again.

At present he can't do anything on ebay other than leave feedback, and that provides you with no protection.
