I would appreciate some advice regarding a purchase l collected today from the buyer.
I did a 50 mile round trip to collect a collection of magazines which the description said were in very good condition. The seller was a nice lady who met me at her front door, handed me the package, and asked me to mark the order as collected, which l did, however when I arrived home and looked through the package more than half of the magazines have pages torn out or are in similarly poor condition.
Can I make a claim from eBay for the item not as described after I had picked it up and marked it collected?

Yes, you can still open a "not as described" return. You can do that here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/returns-refunds/return-item-refund?id=4041
select "Doesn't match description" and if necessary escalate it to eBay after 3 complete working days.

Thank you so much for the speedy response. Much appreciated.

The nice lady will be responsible for sending you a prepaid return label if she wants them back. (There's a good chance that the label initially provided won't cover the weight - if this arises, you will need to ask customer support to sort this out with her, and send a suitable label.
Don't even think of making another 50 mile round trip to return them yourself. eBay will only issue your refund after the item is tracked as returned. eBay does not recognise self-return as proof of delivery.
