Change my username

I have an ebay account and I want to change my username but I noticed that someone in the United States is using the name I want to change to, I don't know if the account is still active or not because nothing seems to be changing (I have been watching for quite a while).

I have tried contacting the owner but getting no reply, I was going to ask him if he would be happy to change his username so I could use the one he is using at the moment.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Even if you could get them to change theirs  I think it's a bad idea to use one you know has been used already, ebay may not even let you.

The reason I want to change is that I have an online business (since 2011) which is called what I want to change to, then my ebay account would be the same as my business.

Do you think it is even sensible to consider wanting to use a name without having any idea of what that person has done over the years. You could, even if it was possible, land yourself in a lot of problems as any sins in the past, anyone dealing with this user name would blame you.

Just forget it. Even if this other user closed their account it's uncertain when, if ever, eBay would release the name for reuse. As has been said, it could cause huge problems if a same-name account was opened by a totally different seller.

As an aside, when eBay first started users were able to register with usernames like dave or fred! Last time I looked - some years ago - these were still registered, but long unsused. I imagine they would attract the same premiums as personal number plates if eBay was ever to reissue them. In fact, knowing eBay, it would be surprising if they let this opportunity pass!
