Buyer protection fee..

Tell if Im wrong??

I don't see it as free to sell on eBay now ...before the recent period of zero final value fees it used to be around 3%.. now it has changed to buyer protection fee which is added on to your listing price..clever as it doesn't even show you this unless you check the completed add once its listed !

Example:

If you want to achieve what somethings worth say £255 the listing shows it as £265 so it looks too expensive..therefore you would need to list at £245 to sell at the realistic £255... in a nutshell you are losing £10  because of listing at less than you wanted to achieve, therefore making it more expensive to sell than it used to be at 3% ...

Looks like we were all led down the garden path from final fees approx 3% to completely Free (no fees) to now approx 4%  (the £10 you had to take off before selling) so in my view is there is nothing free about and everything's going to look more expensive than you want it too on the listing..

Fees were never 3%.

Until October 2024, fees for private sellers were 12.8% + the .42% regulatory operating fee, so a bit over 13%.

The fee was also charged on the postage.

So the fees on your £245 would have been about £32.

So, selling at 245 instead of 255 means you are still getting £20 more than you would have done when you had to pay fees.
