Buyer paid but hasn’t collected item from post office.

I sold an item to a buyer and Royal Mail attempted delivery 7 days ago. The buyer was not home and the tracking information says the package was taken to the buyer’s nominated collection point, which is a post office. However, the buyer still hasn’t collected the package or responded to any messages.

Does anyone know what happens in these situations? Does Royal Mail automatically return the item after a period of time?

If tracking shows attempted delivery then you will not have to refund.

If you have your return address on the back of the item,  the item is usually kept for around 18 days,  and then May be returned to you.

Have you sent the buyer a message that the item is sitting in their collection point and may not be kept for much longer there,  if not collected.

Royal Mail/the post office will keep for 18 days officially. However there will always be a bit of leeway on that as post offices have to label the parcel up and if busy etc it may be 20 days for example. YOu then need to allow a further week for item to be returned as that labelled return items go in a red cross bag for royal mail, and that will mean slowest form of return.
