Have not as yet seen this addressed and would appreciate some pearls of wisdom from an experienced Mentor. In the event of an auction item under 100g with a starting price of under £10 sells in excess of £10, does this transaction still qualify for exclusion from SD and remaining eligible for Custom Postage?

Good question, because you would already have opted out of SD during the listing process. That suggest it's Buy It Now items only but eBay don't clarify. They just say:
The option to opt out will only be available for items under £10 and weighing 100g or under. We'll be introducing this change in phases over the coming weeks.
If possible you could ask tomorrow afternoon on the weekly chat thread:

I have not seen the answer to this, have been on the lookout, but for the moment am switching to BINs to see what happens.
I doubt ebay have even considered this, but I have no intention of getting involved in Simple Postage which is certainly not simple, as the length of the explanation of how it works proves.
I like auctions as there is no limit if bidding goes well, but would not want to find ebay making a mess of a label as seems to happen.
The option to switch to Advanced Postage has still been available today, even for an item of over £10.
I have a few items over £10 listed and have my eye on them to see if any unwanted changes happen, when I will end them.

In other (bad) news, it has been confirmed that the 'under 100g and under £10' exclusion will NOT apply to Large Letters.

That doesn't sound fair. 😞

It is bad news for sellers and buyers.
RM Second Class Large Letter is £1.55.
I will wait and see what price Ebay charge but I imagine it would be more.

Many thanks for all contributions to my query. It would appear there is confusion on the part of EBay on our postal system. As an example, a packet of stamps selling for around six or seven pounds can weigh only appx 50g, but require a large envelope postage due to thickness of package. This is one of a number of anomalies for which EBay do not understand the present U.K. postal system. Thanks to all for input.
