Two questions:
1. Does anyone know if eBay have continued with an 'improvement' they instigated last year that sporadically asks for verification when placing a bid on an auction item?
Asking, as the last time I tried to place a last minute bid I was asked for verification, a process that took longer than I had left to bid before the item ended.
2. Also I seem to recall a discussion that the end time was extended if there were last minute bids. Does this happen to straight up auction listings?

1. What kind of verification were you asked for? Some seller s can set up their listings so that bidders must have a card registered in order to bid. Was it this?
2. This feature is not available on eBay.

Thanks vyolla.
It was a random verification that asked me to input a code, if I remember rightly the code had to be phoned or texted to me. I don't believe it was anything to do with the seller set up as I'd previously placed a bid & the item in question certainly didn't merit needing a credit card. I did question it with the Community but that July '25 post has been archived, I believe one of the eBay team said it was a 'security' thing.

I think the immediate payment which a seller can select only relates to BINs or offers where sale is instant, but as you refer if “bidding” that could not apply.
I would say that it must have been very inconvenient as getting codes etc. at the last minute, does not leave any time, specially when as I have found code never arrives.

You can set that requirement for auction here:

Ah, that's tedious. I've not had one of those during bidding, I manually snipe during that final couple of seconds so would not be best pleased with that!

Thanks john1297576.
I'm aware that there can be immediate payments on BIN, that's not my worry.
The first & only time I've been asked to verify it was extremely inconvenient especially as at the time I bought a lot on eBay & I missed out on said item. I've not placed a last minute bid since so don't know if eBay quietly dropped this change.

Thanks vyolla.
This isn't the case here. The first & only time it happened (July '25) I had placed an initial bid as I'm wont to do. It was all as normal, no verification required.
I'm possibly going to place another last minute bid so just want to know if it's possible eBay are going to muck it up for me again with their 'improvement'.

The thing is I also manually last minute bid (snipe?), so it's not eBay seeing an auto bid that isn't coming direct from my fingertips.
