Asked to pay for a return

I have asked to return an item ,and even though the sellers return policy says seller pays for returns, they want to deduct from my purchase price for their postage charge  and my return postage .Is this correct.

Re: Asked to pay for a return

Sellers normally only pay for returns when the item was not described correctly.    If it's a "change of mind" return the buyer usually pays.   Sellers was probably referring to the "not as described" ones.

In which case,  you pay for the fully tracked return postage,  and the seller refunds all you initially paid for the item.

They should not do that but in practice I don't think they can be prevented.

You say you have "asked".  If it is a business supplier you can return for any reason but you have to open a case and not "ask/discuss".  If it is faulty or not as described [which would include describing it as "will fit XXX" when "it won't"] then the seller sends a label.    If it is a private seller then [unless they specifically say] you can only return for faulty.  Go to the drop down from your eBay purchases and use the correct reason.  You need to include a photo but it does not need to be anything specific.

If a business seller you can return for any reason.  Again you must open a case.  EBay sends you a label and charges you but I understand that everything you paid is refunded.    Do not start talking to them; eBay has a system which follows eBay's rules 100%
