Advice please.

Hi, I'm really in need of some advice please, I sold a high value electrictronic item on eBay (Laptop) and I'm wondering when is it safe to spend the money on something else and know the buyer is happy and doesn't want to return it? I've sent numerous messages asking if he's happy etc to know reply, I can see it was delivered and signed for as it was sent special next day fragile delivery. My anxiety is eatting me because I want to start spending the money on gifts and things but I'm scared he's then going to return it broken or damaged etc and I'm then going to have to fork out the return? I know the item was 100% in perfect working order, I have pictures and videos of it all bench marked and working fine before carefully packing it up for shipping. I can't contact eBay as my love chat has been greyed out for months and the only form of contact I have with eBay is to request a call, but before doing that I just wanted to ask here.

Thanks

Your money is not truly safe until the time for the buyer to do a chargeback with their funding source has passed.  That's 120 days.

Ebay's money back guarantee is 30 days.

No-one can give you any assurances.

Re: Advice please.

It's probably not a good idea to chase buyers to check they're happy with an item.   If they're not happy they will soon let you know.    They have 30 days from date of delivery to open a claim on ebay.    They have 120 with their credit card and other payment providers but may not think of that.

Re: Advice please.

That's a good question to ask,   and I can see you sold 2 high value items in the last few days.

The answer is not too clear though.  A buyer has 30 days from the item's last estimated date for delivery to open any claim for a refund through eBay, but,  they do have 120 days if they wish to proceed with a chargeback with their payment provider.

One thing I do recommend,  please do not send countless messages to buyers asking if the item ' is OK '  this only raises doubts which may not have been there in the first place,  that there may be a known issue and not discovered yet, so ' best ask for that refund! '

Re: Advice please.

Yep and my anxiety over the sales are eatting me alive, so people can literally buy anything they want, use it for upto 30 days, then send it back for a refund "through ebays terms" wow, this makes me wsnt to totally withdraw from the site altogether, that's pretty crazy and not really fair or any seller if I'm honest.

Re: Advice please.

It's been like that since the money back guarantee came in many years ago.

Re: Advice please.

If an item is returned with obvious use, ( not saying this is easy to show / prove for a laptop), or has been changed in any way or damaged basically not in the same state as sent out,  then a seller can appeal a decision for a refund if eBay had stepped in.

Not always easy to prove,  as eBay do not the see the item.  It is a worry for sure,  selling high value items, but the pitfalls would be the same on any online selling site.

Please though  do not  message the buyer any further,  and hopefully you'll hear no more.

Any further issues here,  come back to us.
