what do I do with faulty item which has been fully refunded via ebay? do I throw it away?

I received an item which was unfortunately faulty. The seller did not respond so I got a full refund via ebay. Do I assume the seller does not want the item returned? Do I simply throw it away? I have kept it for more than two weeks now, and my gut feeling is just to dispose of it but wanted to check first. many thanks.

I think that strictly speaking you're entitled to do what you want with it as both parties to the transaction have agreed to accept eBay's sole decision on the case, which includes eBay deciding whether or not the item has to be returned.

However as a courtesy I would suggest that you ask your seller whether they wish the item to be returned, in which case they will need to send you the cost of p&p. Otherwise say you that if you haven't heard from them with say 7 days you will dispose of the item.
