i recently sold an item, which had a fault, it was not in the description of the item, and returns not accepted, the buyer telephoned me after receiving it and was about to very rudely demanded a refund,  which i usually do without quibble on my sales, he returned the item and i refunded the monies paid plus postage,he left negative feedback which was altered to positive feedback, was this refund appliable by the buyer

No returns is for change of mind not damaged/mis described items. If an item is damaged you have to accept a return and refund in full, including return postage.

In your case though, being a business although not registered, you can't have no returns, you have to allow returns for change of mind, up to a full year, by law, as you haven't bothered to do things properly.
