Does ebay understand that the in Royal mail sorting offices, are still working under social distancing measures and therefore cannot guarantee any postal delivery times? and what are ebay doing to protect sellers acounts against this ongoing problem, thanks
I understand that based on the sellers despatch estimate and type of postage eBay assesses the latest date for delivery. If this would normally be - say - 3 days I believe there was an announcement saying it was extended to - say - 5 days. In any event if a non-delivery case is open there is another 8 days for delivery before escalation/refund.
I was chatting [socially distanced of course] to our relief postman [sic]. When they arrive these days most of the mail is already sorted mechanically into the delivery frame in the order of the walk. They are required only to add any extra items and packets
I take your point that my delivery office is not affected in the slightest but there is the other side of it that what I buy comes from all over UK. I am not in London.
Some may be affected but eBay has built in a little bit more time to account for that. I can only report my experience and you can see that I leave feedback commenting.
In all my many years of eBay I have never had a delivery go astray. I have never had a UK item where I needed to open a not as described case. I have never needed to leave a -ve. When I have sold things I have not had any problems. Like you it is sent on the first humanly possible time.
I have bought conjuring tricks for 99p from China which arrive without instructions which go in the bin as life's too short.
As I have said - many times - there is no general problem and that @angelah1847 agrees.
I have bought many many things during lockdown and without exception all have arrived within eBay's [slightly extended] delivery time. 90% arrive within 24 or 48 hours. I have a regular 1st class [non eBay] delivery which arrives regular as clockwork every Wednesday. My postie even said that things were easier as the roads were clearer.
We do however read of people who have decided - off their own bat - to list in March and not deliver till Covid is over. It might even be prudent for them but it will not do for eBay.
You speak as if this is a UK problem when it isn't.
I bought an item a couple of days ago, it was posted yesterday 2nd class and I received it today.
In fact everything I have bought and sold over the past few months using RM have been delivered within a pretty good timely manner.
Probably they're not doing enough but they have staff problems of their own.
My royal mail deliveries have been just fine, except for 1 seller who was obviously using it as an excuse to delay posting & I hate people who take advantage of tragedy.
Best just to adjust your delivery times.
Wise sellers are increasing their handling times by a couple of days to make up for it, and ebay have been removing late dispatch defects for the asking in most cases.
One thing that I have trouble with is the number of buyers here who - reportedly - have had items tracked and delivered and not to them.
We understand that Royal Mail uses GPS tracking to show where the item was delivered.
One option - which must be rare, surely, is a corrupt member of delivery staff who scans the item at the doorstep and pockets the item. I doubt that items are x-rayed in the delivery office so this must be pretty random.
Another option is a straightforward mistake where an item is scanned and delivered to the wrong door. But what would happen? If someone gets mail for someone else why would they bother to keep it? The contents would - usually - be random. If it was correctly addressed then I - and probably most - would put it back in the post or catch the delivery post person later. Or if local simply take it to the correct address. Part of the problem seems to be that there is little or no communication when you complain to Royal Mail. In the old days you might visit the local delivery office for example. Citing data protection no doubt these days RM would refuse to say to what address it had been delivered.
When mail is initially undelivered then it is sent to Belfast to be investigated whereas in the past the local knowledge of the delivery office would come into play.
While there may be some local difficulties, deliveries have gone remarkably well. 2nd Class Mail frequently being delivered next day, and other deliveries very much on time.
Even overseas mail has not suffered any serious delays, with feedback being received within 4/5 days.
I think that any late deliveries are down to late posting by sellers, using COVID 19 as an excuse, rather than late delivery by RM.
