Is it compulsory to change to the new way of receiving payment ? i.e. direct to Bank Account

It will be eventually.   Currently it's only registered business sellers but ebay are severing their close links with Paypal so everyone will have to use their managed payments in the future.

It's as secure as any other site. Your Paypal account must already be linked to your bank account and presumably that's been OK.
