Just sold my suzuki cappuccino ( eBay item number: 23249404285 )
as a non runner and requiring lots of welding to underside, it went as a buy it now and the buyer paid straight away then rung me to say he was arranging a car transporter. after 3 days waiting he now wants a refund with no explanation or reason given. how do I stand ? am I obliged to give him a full refund ?

Of course, you can't keep the money. Vehicles are the only thing where you do not have to offer Paypal, so it was rather foolish to have this method of payment. Buyer should have inspected and if satisfied pay in cash.
Now he will have to agree to a cancellation so that you get your selling fee refunded.,,
