I recently purchased an item but after reading the sellers feeback realise that they are very slow to send items. I have sent numerous emails but have received no response. Can i cancel this item immediately or do I have to wait for the estimated delivery date - almost 2 weeks! even though it is in the UK?

Unless it was UK business seller, you don't have a right to cancel.
1 day after estimated delivery date open case for item not received, escalate on day 9,
no shortcut unless seller refunds before then.
