I'm no longer able to afford my bid on an item, as is the case at the moment unfortunately I'm winning!
Can anyone tell me if I'm able to and if so how I can withdraw my bid please?!
Your new and should of familiarised yourself with ebay Terms and Conditions to which you signed up for by becoming a member.
Ebay state that all bids are binding and if you win you need to pay or a defect can be placed on your account if you don't,and to many of those can terminate your account.
You may contact the seller and ask if they will cancel your bid if time allows, but there certainly not obliged to.
The reasons for you retracting a bid DO NOT include inability to pay. You must only bid if you can pay and not waste the sellers time.
Sellers have to pay for the privilege of selling and while most fees can be rcovered that is done by giving Non Payers an Unpaid Strike. More than one and you will be blocked by many sellers as Time wasters are not appreciated.
