Why are delivery times getting so long, Most things are taking weeks to arrive

You are pehaps unlucky.   In the whole of the last year I have bought lots from eBay and not one has been later than the advertised last date. Most arrive on the next day [24 hour] or the day after [48 hour].  There is no general delay to Royal Mail.  My eBay purchase this week turned up on time

My regular Wednesday purchase [not eBay] arrived every single time on the day. 

If something is still outstanding on the latest date for delivery then open a "non-receipt" case straight away to flag it to the seller and to eBay

I find that personal sellers do send quickly I just had a jigsaw puzzle
take a few days.
But I am finding commercial are taking much longer, a drill bit holder 2
weeks, washing machine cleaner 20 days.
I have been with eBay from the beginning as buyer and seller but I am
increasingly useing Amazon. Pricing is getting close to eBay and mostly
next day.
I ordered carpet shampoo after waiting nearly 3 weeks got from Amazon next
day only 80p more, you must be with prime,
Ordered lawn bowls bits and bobs well before start of the season still not
here.
One clue I asked a company why my hobby supplies have slowed down and was
told the pay pal replacement takes a lot longer to pay them.
Just looked a angle cutter blades estimated delivery mid May! From a UK
company.
Amazon tomorrow same price if with prime.
