It's a vaping device. I have bought others before and never been asked to do this. You can never be too sure these days

Vapes and vape related items are, by law, age restricted items.

Ebay are rightly so, getting very strict on checking that Vape sellers are actually age verifying buyers. We always have done but used a different system - cheaper but really really time consuming.
Ebay did an audit on us recently and we passed but we did complain at how labour intensive this process is for us - they suggested among others, this company.
Their software integrates with Ebay platform and our shop, and the AV checks are visible to Ebay, which as a seller is hugely helpful which is why we use them.
They do charge - business is tough enough right now without having extra expenses!
Also, it's incredibly frustrating that any item that is vape related - including 18650 batts, chargers, bumper rings for tanks- even cases/skins all have to be AV'd.

Essentially if an item is sold under Vape category or title suggests it can be used with anything vape related has to be AVd - that bit is a bit daft IMO, but hey, it's a legal requirement and if we do not adhere to it, accounts are closed.

Someone I know had their ac closed because they listed a generic battery charger and put in the desc that it was compatible with vape batts, but didn't AV buyers.

Yes, you are supposed to be 18 to open an Ebay ac, however they themselves admit their own process can be manipulated.

The video thing is an option the AV company use - take a selfie and their software can estimate your age.
You should only ever have to do this once with the company the seller is using, ie we use Verify My Age. If you pass the AV check and buy something from another seller who also uses the same AV company, then you will not have to go through the process again.

The implication for sellers is that they risk their account being closed, so whether you agree or disagree, please do not have a go at us - we are (most of us anyway!), genuine and responsible businesses that are working hard to do things right.

It is the law!

but why can't ebay just use the same system they use to verify the age of people buying knives?


surely it has got to be the quickest, easiest, and cheapest way for all concerned?
