Thickness of large letter

I tried posting a large letter today which measured 2.3 cm thick. Label printing for royal mail says a large letter is 2.5 cm thick. This is not the case as it wouldnt fit through the post office measurements thing. It was 3 milameters to big. So I'm having to post my item as a small parcel. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have the Royal Mail measurements in front  of me and the size for a large letter is 25mm  thickness,  353 x 250mm and max weight 750g.

My postmaster assures me that they are allowed to 'gently' pull the items through the cut out slot guides,  however,  the slightest resistance , then they have top charge for the next size,  and that would indeed be,  the small parcel size.

well thats the second time its happened to me but the first time she had it halfway through then deciced it was to big, she wasnt very nice about it. dont see how it was too big when she had it half way through (big queue behind me like) mind they arent very nice at the post office near me like. try to tell them they dont need to weigh it or print a reciept off and they start arguing with you bitten ya head off. so went to one in town and she was really nice had a laugh with her about it.

You most definitely need to change post offices!!! They certainly do need to weigh it , and they certainly do have to print out a proof of posting if you ask for one. That little piece of paper can save you a lot of money and a £14 Paypal fee if you ever get a charge back. Keep those POP's for 13 months just for this reasons alone!

I use prepaid labels off ebay and a printed off receipts that just need stamped at post office. Ive got a parcel
, letter measurement thing now. Mind she was funny with me today. I had a parcel with me that me lass made up on Sunday for me to post today as she went on holiday yest. She labelled it as a small parcel with it being a top. Well it fit through the large letter gap. She wasn't gonna take it was gonna be real funny with me until a said it wasn't my parcel i couldn't change it. She then went and banged both parcels asking what was in them. Good job neither was breakable.
