Should I sell an expensive item to a new ebayer with a feedback of 3?

Just sold a new sealed keyboard for £235, to a newly registered buyer with a 100% feedback of 3. I checked out what he had bought previously, and he has bought a couple of things for a few quid, but he also bought the same keyboard second hand a few weeks ago. This has got me worried, is he a scammer? Will he claim the new item is faulty and send back the second hand item? What protection have I got if he does this? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Will he claim the new item is faulty and send back the second hand item?

Who knows? Thers are the risks that all sellers have to take.

If he claims it's faulty, eBay will automatically find in his favour and require you to refund him. Once you've sent him a prepaid return label, if he returns a different keyboaaord you can appeal eBay's decision.

Don't count on eBay supporting you. In theory, this is covered by eBay's condition of returned items: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/member-behaviour-policies/condition-returned-items-policy?id=47...

In practice, you may find that these reassurances to sellers are meaningless. You may be lucky, but some sellers have told us that eBay's response to items being swapped for another one was that as eBay didn't see the item the seller delivered, or the item the buyer returned, "they are not in a position to take sides and verify who has the valid complaint". EBay's idea of not taking sides is to find in the buyer's favour, and require the seller to refund them!

EBay is unregulated, so there is no right to any independent appeal. This has become a very risky place to sell things.
