Selling advice

Hi All,

I listed my mobile phone for sale and within an hour it was purchased by an ebay member with zero feedback. They paid for the item immediately but then sent me a message asking if they can collect in person or if I could send it to a works address. All seems normal until I check the works address vs the home address and they are 450 miles apart.

What would be your advice in handling this transaction?

Should I ben concerned?

Is there any steps I can take to safeguard myself?

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Hiya.

Firstly log into your Paypal account and check that the payment is actually there and is cleared and whether it says ok to post.

New members with high value phones are a scam magnet 😞

Never rely on just an email saying its been paid for as there are FAKE but real looking emails around.

You never send to any other address than the one that is on Paypal.   Never send anything to an address given to you in a message as you will lose all seller protection.

Although strictly speaking you cannot refuse Paypal.   if someone wants to collect in person really push for cash on collection.

There is another scam where someone pays by Paypal and collects in person.   They get home and then claim item not received under Ebays money back Guarantee.  Seller cannot prove delivery to the Buyer and the Buyer ends up with the phone and a refund 😞

Only post the phone by next day special delivery...this ensures that it is tracked with a signature upon delivery and "if it gets lost in the post" you should be able to claim compensation for the phone from Royal Mail.

Also to try and stop any wannabe scammers.....go to  My Ebay Page....account....seller preferences

Tighten them all up as much as you can....block anyone from bidding who does not have a paypal account or credit card on file or has 2 strikes for non payment in 12 months. 

All you can do is strictly stick to the rules and try and use common sense and hopefully protect yourself as much as you possible can.

I would definitely not on this occasion allow anyone to collect that phone in person after paying for it by Paypal if collection is person is not stated on your listing.
