Seller has issued refund (no reason given) why does it take so long to clear?

Just learned that seller has cancelled an item my son was so looking forward to receiving.  No explanation.  Would at least expect immediate refund.  Why then do I have to wait until 25th December (9 days) for the money that I have paid to be cleared for return to me?

Pay pal refunds go back to source,so if you used your PayPal balance or bank account to fund the original payment, the refunded money will go back to your PayPal account balance.
If you used a credit or debit card to fund the original payment, the refunded money will go back to your card. Depending on your card issuer, it may take up to 30 days.
If you paid part with your PayPal balance and the rest with your debit or credit card, then the refund amount paid by debit or credit card directly to the card, and the rest to the PayPal balance.
