I think that someone is trying to scam me. They haven't succeeded but I want to report this to ebay so that they can investigate. How do I do that?
How are they trying to scam you?
Is it the high value item that you sold yesterday/
Come back and tell us more and we may be able to help
Thanks. I'll try to keep it short. I advertised 2 lenses for sale, and one has sold successfully, so forget that!
About 2 days into the auction, I received a message from ***** asking if he could pay me £1500 and would I ship the lens to his son in the UK. (He is in the USA). I said I couldn't go outside ebay rules, so if he made me an offer of £1500 on the auction, I would accept it etc.
He came back with excuses twice - he found that the offer toggle didn't work, he found he couldn't bid... I stuck to my guns and said that I must do everything through ebay. He then sent me his email address all mixed up with ((?>)) symbols to get it past ebay. Again I refused to go outside ebay.
Last night, the lens didn't sell. (I have not relisted it)
This morning I got a message from a 'different' ebayer, using exactly the same phrases as the first one, and also in the USA. And surprise! he wanted the lens posted to the same postcode address as the first one!
So, something is going on. I can only think that they want me to not use ebay, then claim the item did not arrive and demand their money back. I really don't know.
All I do know is that this is all very odd/ strange/ deceitful and I will not be dealing with him/ them, and I want to alert ebay. Your views??
