Hi could anybody clarify this please, I have just noticed with this new payment system that buyers have up to 4 days to pay. Now my question is with a strict guidelines of dispatch and postage times will there be expecting sellers to post from purchase or for when funds cleared?
Its all rather confusing, because it's my worry if you're offering a one day dispatch time but this is not gonna be possible if they can take up to 4 days to pay?
Also what if a package goes missing? Royal Mail proof of postage receipts are not accepted as proof of postage, so with them holding funds, and ebay dosnt always favour the little guy.
Everything's very confusing at the moment
EBay expects sellers' dispatch time to start from when eBay notifies them that the buyer has paid.
There have been a lot of grumbles about this, but sellers need to accept the inevitable. Buyers are entitled to expect their items to arrive on time, and any seller who habitually delays posting until eBay transfers the money to them is asking for bad feedback and defects for late delivery.
It probably isn't coincidence that eBay has also recently extended it's money back guarantee to class any item that arrives even a day late as being not as described, entitling the buyer to claim a full refund, with the seller having to send them a prepaid return label if they want the item back.
The principle, and casualness with which eBay has introduced this, is infuriating. But in practice it only means that sellers should have available funds to meet postage costs for a few days until payment reached them.
As always, any seller who objects is free to stop selling here. It won't worry eBay. Most of the complaints are coming from small or private sellers, who already struggle to comply with the same rules as large professional business sellers. EBay wants to leave its "online boot sale" image behind, and that includes many of us!
