I put in a bid on an item which DEFINTELY had zero bids, for the stated start price of 0.99. I was then told I had to put in a minimum bid of 1.04. I did that. I was immediately outbid by a proxy bid apparently made several hours earlier, but my bids still show as the first one.
It's also saying my first original bid was a proxy one when it wasn't. This seems suspicious and the counter bidder only has 16 stars feedback.
If the previous bidder was genuine, why didn't the item show up as having a bid on it, instead of 0? Why was their bid only triggered when I made mine? If the item had a reserve price, normally you get a message saying 'reserve not met' but I didn't get that.

you misread it,
it will have shown 1 bid at 99p before you placed your bid
the other bidder placed their bid on 20 Feb 2020 at 12:04:23AM GMT
so every time you bid, you were outbid
