Oubid myself by increasing max bid

I was winning an auction with a bid of £141, as the auction was ending in the early hours of the morning I increased my Max bid to £150.

The auction immeditely jumped to £150 with no-one else bidding.  I therefore, outbid myself.

How is this possible?

that only happens when there is a reserve,

until you met the reserve you were the highest bidder but you weren't 'winning' the item, as items do not sell if they don't reach the reserve
