Offer accepted by seller who then asked to cancel the deal

I made an offer for an auction item today, and this was then accepted by the seller.

I then received a message from the seller asking if the deal could be cancelled as they had subsequnetly received a much better offer. The seller forwarded the eBay message to them offering the higher price, and being full of Christmas spirit, I agreed to cancel my offer on this occasion (they were disposing of a deceased relative's belongings).

However my question is this: My offer was accepted at 08:28 this morning, so why did eBay continue to forward further offers to the seller after this time (in this case at 08:34)?

Surely this just encourages sellers to renege on deals! eBay should stop sending further offers as soon as one has been accepted.

Thoughts please...

"eBay should stop sending further offers as soon as one has been accepted."

Once an offer is accepted the listing is removed from sale as it has been sold.

The seller mush have got an unofficial offer via messages.

you should have refused to cancel.
