Good job you didn't find how to cancel, as if you did you would never see a refund.
What is the point in opening a case to get a refund, if you think a seller will refund outside a case? For a start they don't get the selling fee refunded and the Paypal Fee is not refunded, so they try to avoid doing anything by getting Buyers to let them off the hook.
Do not close the case. If the seller does not refund you will not be able to open another one. The seller can refund via the case, without requiring the item be returned if that's what you've agreed. If not escalate the case to ebay after 3 working days and they will enforce the refund after item has been returned at seller's expense.
