MEMBER IS NO LONGER A MEMBER AFTER ITEM SENT

I have had an issue with a buyer who (with hindsight), was troublesome from the start.

I was selling a pair of shoes on a Buy It Now or Offer for £60.  She sent me an offer of £10 which I declined.  She sent it a second time, to which I sent a counter offer of £30.  She then sent me a message that said "you need to accept my offer of £10. It is all that I can afford".  I replied, that I am sorry, but the absolute best I could do is £30.  After a further offer of £10 which I declined, the item ended and I relisted.  She finally put in an offer of £30, which I accepted.  She then took a further 10 days to pay.

No sooner had I received payment and posted the item, I notice that she is no longer a member of ebay!  What do I do at this stage, but wait to see what happens.

A few days later, she is claiming that her parcel has not arrived.  I send the tracking number and it has been received.

Two weeks later, she emails me that she is unhappy with the shoes, to which I replied that she should start a return via Ebay!

Help! What will happen now?  Will she be able to get her money back through Paypal. I am pretty sure that they aren't going to be returned!

Will she be able to get her money back through Paypal.

Probably, but at least she will have to pay the return postage. Also, if she returns the shoes damaged or switches them for another pair you may find that PayPal is more willing to listen to the seller's side than eBay is. Unlike eBay, PayPal is regulated so either side has the right to appeal to the financial ombudsman. Also unlike eBay, the seller isn't penalised by a defect on their account just for trying to put their side of the case!

If the need arises, it may also be worth letting PayPal know that the buyer's membership ended immediately after paying. The chances are that her account was closed by eBay, which would suggest a history of unacceptable behaviour. EBay might be willing to share this information with PayPal if they have to decide on a refund claim.

The buyer could open a case in Paypal's resolution centre, however if you accept the claim the buyer will have to pay the return postage cost themselves which may put them off pursuing it further.
