Last minute bidding

Hi. Last night with 30 minutes I submitted a big bid in the hundreds to secure an item and I stayed on the confirm screen until 8 seconds to go before I confirmed. I was expecting the you are the highest bidder but got the main item screen faded out with my bid in the bid box and a message over the top something like do you want to submit this bid and before I could move the cursor the screen changed to auction over. My bid was a lot more than the winning bid. I dont think I did anything wrong , that I lost out and so did the seller. Can you advise me what to do please? Thank you.

Keep in mind that listings close at the exact time stated, to the second.

Last minute bidding or "sniping" always carries the risk of being too slow on the button, or that some technical delay will prevent your bid from being received in time. In my experience, unless you have full fibre it's safer to use one of the paid-for snipe services.

Alternatively, place your bid early enough to ensure that it's registered, and bid the maximum you are willing to pay. That way, if yours is the highest bid you will win regardless of how many last second bids are placed. And if you are outbid, you will have lost fairly to someone who was willing to pay more.

you left it too long to confirm your bid,

don't leave it so long between screens next time

a bid isn't registered until you confirm it
