Hi. I started selling last month, and since that time, I've found that nearly all of the money from my sales has been on hold by ebay for up to 21 days, even when I provide a tracking number. On top of that, when they finaly do release funds, and I go to paypal and try to withdraw some of those funds into my bank account, I get a message that says "due to security reasons you may not get your money for up to 72 hours"... are they serious? So, ebay first place unfair holds on sales, then paypal do the same thing after. I have a perfect feedback rating so far and I've not done anything wrong so whatever is going on? And is it true that they do this to "all" new sellers, or just some? Please advise. This has caused me huge frustration and upset. Thanks.
This is just something that all new and returning sellers have to live with.
There is so much fraud on eBay. Without these precautions anyone could open an account, sell a few items, then withdrwaw the money and disappear, leaving eBay or PayPal to compensate their buyers.
When I first joined over 20 years ago this 21 day hold didn't apply, but as a new seller your sales were not eligible for eBay or PayPal buyer protection. You had to make (as I recall) about 80 sales with 95% positive feedback before they qualified for protection. I remember how proud I was when I could at last add the buyer protection logo to my listings!
If this applied today no-one would risk buying from new sellers. So having your payments held for 21 days is actually quite a small price for being able to offer your buyers the same level of protection as more established sellers.
