Import Charges

Hi there,

Ebay customer support can't explain the breakdown of the "Import charges" they are charging me for.

Can anyone else perhaps explain what "Import charges" consist of?

Item (1)  £22.88

Postage to W14 8NG £11.14

Import charges    £9.96

If I were to guess, VAT at 20% is levied on the goods plus the shipping cost. So that makes £6.80 of VAT which I assume is part of the "Import charges".

So my question is what is the remaining £3.16 of Import Charges for?

I'm shocked that Ebay's customer services can't even explain what their charges consist of? Or even make up a simple and convenient answer like "£3.16 is our processing fee"...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

We are still trying to understand it ourselves

Ebay have to collect the VAt of 20% for the tax man. Probably the same as they do for Australia and other countries

Starting 1 January 2021, eBay is required to collect VAT on certain orders delivered to UK addresses:

  • Orders up to £135 sent from outside the UK
  • Orders where the item is located in the UK, but the seller is not a UK seller

You'll see the VAT included in your order total at checkout, and you can view and download a tax invoice from the Order details page in your purchase History

Does your purchase history tell you if you look at Order details as it says

No idea what the extra is for

If you go to the Gov.uk and see if you can see what other customs/ import charges can be made

From other posts there has been no mention of any ebay charge of a proccessing fee.

It seems all to do with the customs excise and Vat
