I recently received a delivery of an empty box. After complaint to seller and eBay, eBay sided in favour of the seller as tracking info showed box as delivered. Can anything be done to investigate further or contact courier to request box weight when sent? Seems rather unfair a seller can send an empty box and not have to provide proof they sent item when it's not received by buyer.
You opened the wrong case one for item not received, when as you were given notice tracking proved delivery.
Luckily, you can now open a case for item not as described from the resolution centre.

If the seller wants their box back first they pay for that fully tracked return postage. Would seem unlikely here, so if they do not accept and refund within 3 days, escalate the case on day 4, and eBay step in and fully refund you.
Do not close the case early on any excuse or promise the seller may give, once closed you cannot open any more with eBay for that item.
Let it run the full 3 days, and if not refunded in that time, do not forget to escalate.
They do not offer you a refund, you open that case for item not as described, they HAVE to refund you through that case. They are given 3 days to do so. If they do not, you just escalate on day 4, and eBay force the refund.
You do not have to make any more effort to ask couriers ( they only usually speak to senders and not the recepient) for the weight of the item.
Open that case now.
