Does eBay have any seller protection?

I just sold a camera, it was in perfect condition when I shipped it and I have never had any issues with it. I packaged it up, sent it and didn’t hear anything back. Today, 30 days after it was sold I received an email requesting a return saying the item is defective. I’m naturally suspicious of this.

It’s been out of my hands for a month and there is now conveniently an issue. eBay seem to be suggesting that I accept the return, in which case I’ll lose money on postage and have to pay to repair whatever has happened to the camera while it’s been out of my possession. To me this doesn’t seem fair to me and seems to fly in the face of the sale of goods act. Is there any kind of protection for sellers (especially independent sellers) not having to refund buyers if they damage goods?

One thing is certain, you do not do returns through Emails. Ebay CS should know better.

If you accept back it will cost you even more as you will not get the selling fee refunded. Fees are only refunded if made through a case and if the buyer cannot open a case then no refund.

Buyer has to open a Case, if they are out of time then they will not be able to open a case with Ebay. They can try Paypal but buyer pays return postage.
